Toad Pairing

Male (yellowish) and female (brownish) pair of the toad Bufo japonicus formosus during amplexus, just observed in front of my house, Ikarashi, Nishi-ku, Niigata-shi, Niigata Prefecture, Japan (photographed at 20:39 h on 27 April 2010). This pair seemed to have dropped off the upper mound of sands approximately 1.5 m high during breeding immigration toward a pond and to have become damaged.
