Hynobius hidamontanus (Egg Sacs)

Egg Sacs
A pair of egg sacs of the salamander Hynobius hidamontanus, collected from a breeding fountain during April-May, each sac including about 20-30 eggs (also see Breeding Male & Egg Sacs).

A few unfertilized eggs (arrows) are occasionally found in a pair of egg sacs of this species.

A banana-shaped, coiled egg sac is characteristic of H. hidamontanus, which is typical for hynobiids (also see Egg Sacs of Hynobius kimurae).
