I should note that Higashi-Yukigaya
is in Ota-ku in Tokyo. Some names are popular and you end up with
similarly or identically named temples (and cities, mountains, etc.) in
different parts
of the country. This temple was so inconspicuous looking from the
street that I nearly didn't go in for a closer look, but once I got up
close to it, I was glad I had - particularly for the house. This
type of house with the slightly rounded roof is quite rare
now. Often the house on the grounds of a temple is rebuilt as a
typical modern house and only the temple stays looking old and
traditional. The surrounding area is of great contrast to the temple grounds - as you can see from the last two pictures above. Copyright 2006 by Lyle (Hiroshi) Saxon - Images Through Glass, Tokyo |
