Independent administrative corporation contravenes Cartagena laws

On 22 July 2014, MEXT announced that an independent administrative corporation, the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS), had carried out forced drainage of waste liquids from experiments to an underground drainage layer without implementing the inactivation treatment necessitated by the Cartagena laws. On 8 June, a fault occurred in the drainage system in an isolated greenhouse where GM crop cultivation was in progress and the waste liquid from the experiment was drained off without treatment.
