Bill Crowley（ビル・クラウリー）


ロードアイランド州プロビデンス出身。　スタンフォード大学卒業｡

1500m走者として全米2位にランクされたこともある元プロ・アスリート。

日本で7年間暮らし、英語と日本語の両方で演じる噺家（はなしか）に。

"Laughter Knows No Borders"（笑いには国境がない）が信条。

英語を通じて異文化理解の懸け橋にと、日本政府から親善大使を任ぜられた経験を持ち、中学校英語教科書『New Horizon』（2006年版・東京書籍）にも紹介された。

現在はロサンゼルスに住み、SAG（映画俳優組合）所属の俳優として活動している。



彼とは10数年前に、大阪府吹田市のとある中華料理店で偶然食事を共にしたことがある。　

「大学時代はオリンピックを目指すアスリートだったが、九死に一生を得る経験をして人生観が変わり自分の好きなことをして生きようと決心した。」と語っていた記憶がある。　初対面で自分の人生経験、思想を語ったので少々びっくりした。

当時の名刺には英会話教師と書いてあったからアメリカから日本に渡って来たばかりの無名の頃だったのだろう。　その後、その英会話学校で学んでいた桂枝雀師匠と出会い、英語落語を始めることとなった。
