Male Toad

Male Bufo raddei
Maximal one (BM = 43.61 g, SVL = 64.42 mm) of several males of the toad Pseudepidalea raddei (formerly Bufo), captured by hand among grasslands around a pond in Shaamar, Selenge Province, Mongolia (photographed on 24 July 2005). They were judged a male from developed nuptial thumb pads, one of secondary sexual characteristics, and release call when clasped by the axillae. This species metamorphosed at larger size (SVLs = ca. 18-22 mm) than that of Bufo japonicus formosus (SVLs = ca. 6-8 mm) that I knew well.

Release call of this male (16 July 2015): WAV (Waveform Audio File Format); AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format); MP3 (MPEG-2 Audio Layer III).
