Gonadotropes_2

Distribution of gonadotropin-producing cells (gonadotropes) revealed by the monoclonal antibody against bullfrog LH beta in the mid-sagittal plane of the pituitary in Hynobius nigrescens (PAP method; Hasumi et al., 1997).

(A) Male in May. Many gonadotropes in the pars distalis (pd) are distributed near the median eminence (me) and the pars intermedia (pi), and some are distributed sparsely in the peripheral region of the pars distalis; pn = pars nervosa.

(B) Female in February. Most gonadotropes are distributed in the peripheral region of the pars distalis.
