• Association: ( Everything is considered.)
- Shortcut hair mode:
[ ax : x= 0,-,#,9,@,8,:,;] notation can be shorten [0,-,#,9,@,8,:,;] in special case.
( here, [a0, a-, a#], [a9, a@], [a8] and [a:, a;] are corresponding to the [AA], [AE], [AA R] and [ER] CMU dictionary Phoneme.)

- If "0(zero),-(hyphen),#(sharp),   9,@(at)" is specified at the word-top or at the next of the letter which is not "a",
it is regarded as the implicit "a0,a-,a#(= AA] ),   a9,a@(= AE] ) ".
- If "3 (twin peaks)" is specified, it is unconditionally regarded as the implicit "a0 (= AA] )".
- If " [ (U reclining), 2(double), 4, %(percent)" is specified, it is unconditionally regarded as the implicit "a/ (= AH] )".
- cf. IPA/ CMU/ a2spelling vowels mouth/ tongue position.
- If "8" is specified at the word-top or at the next of the letter which is not "a,o",

- If ":,;" is specified at the word-top or at the next of the letter which is not "a,e,i,o,u,7,*",

My now recommended comprehensive combination is [AA] = [3], [AE] = [@], [AH] = [ [ ], 5, 7, 8, : or ;. -- As of 07.08.2007 mmddyyyy
ex. loch/ lock [ l3k ], lack [ l@k ], luck [ l[k ], look [ luk ], Luke [looook], lark [ l8k ], lurk [ l;k ],
  like [ laik ], lake [ leik ], lick [ lik ], leak/ leek [ leeeeek ]
- [AA] ⇒ "A of A" --- cf. king of king, who?
- 0 in a0 is o in "hot"
( This is the most basic [a]. This sound is close to the [a] in the diphthong [ai, aw], and needs more open mouth than [ai, aw]. )

- [a0] , alias [a# (shift-keyboard)]. I intended to tell that a0, a# is the most opened mouth, unbound, big & bright & sharp & mild and base sound.
# ( definition; in music mark) = n: a notation indicating one half step higher than the note named.
From a viewpoint of the mouth open degree, AA] has the most opened mouth in "[A] vowel family (= AA], AH], AE], ER], R( vowel mode)])" .
i.e. Assigning a# (with musucal mood) to AA] is not so bad.   The pronunciation of "sharp" includes a# sound (; # has #).

Do[dow]/ Re[rei]/ Mi[mi:]/ Fa[f#7, f8]/ Sol[sowl]/ La[l#7, l8]/ Si[si:]

- 0 in a0 is o in "nonsense". n0n- prefix. in UK; [non], in US; [nan]     ex. nonalcoholic -- [n0>>n @>>lc5 h0>lic,]

ex. sharp [sha8p, sh8p] or [sh#7p], heart [ha8t, h8t],
hot -- in shorten notation of [h0t] or [h#t] both OK, if you want to emphasize [a] pronouncing than [o] in USA,
you had better use [h#t] (there are no "o" nuance as in hot. There is no one who pronounce sharp as [sho8p]. ).
once more: in USA, short o is replaced by more opened (somewhat long) mouth voice AA] .

( Wonder if :: BRA [B R AA1] = [br#>] ( abbr. "brassiere" in French, foreign word exceptional? ) is [bro] in UK?-- perhaps, No.
-- in UK, There is no short [AA] pronouncing? they are obedient to the spelling? cf. want [wont] in UK.
-- 1 direction way. i.e. short a/o is all a (in US) and all o (in UK). UK is colder than US, they dislike big opened mouth? )
- [AA] = [a0] = [a-] = [0] = [-] = [#] = [3]
I add "[3]" to [AA] vowel assignment keys.
Because AA shape is a twin "A" mountains (= twin peaks, TV program name? , or twin humps), if "3" toppled forward, it makes twin humps.

i.e. AAaa∩∩ or M( rotate right/ recline) 3. ( 3 is non shift-key keyboard.)
In fact, ∩∩ mark is a "McDonald [m5c d3>n5ld,] 's" Corporation mark. cf. Link: Welcome to McDonald's
• Another view: 3 is a bra [br3] mark. --- countereducational ?
• If your Einglish is British, it is good to think "3 is two-storied ɔ" .
- Cat and 9 are in the proverb " A cat has nine lives ( and a woman has cats' lives) .".

I assigned @ (strong sound of @ mark) , and I hesitate to use @ as a SCHWA vowel symbol (weak sound of @ mark).
cat ---- represents [c@t,] is so natural. everyone do it well, I think so.
( [æ (ae ligature)] = a + e = @; one PROOF:: Replace the horizontal bar of the "e" with the half size "a" , so, its shape is "@". )
- [4] = [% (shift-keyboard)] = [a/] ( =AH] ) ( =[AH1, 2] expected. but In fact, same as [5, 6] (=[AH0]). becuz now, No checked 0/1/2 mark.)
IPA mark Λ/| (slant + vertical bar)/4 (with an acute angle head) or %

Percent % is a friend of /,
% comes from "by the 100",
Symbol roots: cut "cento" ⇒ cen / to ⇒ c/o ⇒ o/o ⇒ % (i.e. 1 cuts 00 in the middle -- cutting mark),
"cut" includes % sound.

ex. cut -- [c%t,], company -- [c%mp5nee,], cousin -- [c%z5n,], what -- [w%t, hw%t,] ( [(h)w#t] in MSN Encarta© )
lunch -- [L4nch,], supper [s4p:,], snack -- [sn@c,], potluck -- [p#tl4c,], touch -- [t4ch,], double -- [d4b5l,], Monday -- [m4ndy, m4ndey,]
- As a matter of fact, I'm not fond of 4 mapping to [AH] (stressed AH1 or AH2) or /|.
I don't know its reason, I couldn't image 4 to /| easily. My feeling didn't accept it.

I feel 2 is more fit than 4 for the [AH] sound mapping.
• 2 has an acute angle foot ∠ as same as 4's head.
Further,
• 2 figure is more stable than 4. -- this is a big factor.
• 2 has a secret h (= acca) or u or n shapes.
Reverse h by vertical mirror (= nl ) , and rotates by 90 degree right. -- makes 2.

i.e. h ¦ nl (= same relation as; b ¦ d ) ⇔(rotate) ⊃  Z2

• Standing back to back 2 and reversed 2 makes shape, this heart shape looks like a love mark and a cup/ trophy.
love [l4v, l%v] and cup [c4p, c%p] are a typical vowel [AH] pronouncing words.
--- 2 and [AH] are connected by a red string of fate. This is a destiny (?).
( 2 ⇒ u or n conversion is more honest. Especially "2 ⇔ u" is valuable.)
• 2 is DA of double [d4>b5l] = [d2>b5l]. (i.e. 2[double] has 2.)
• 2 + ~ (Tilde) =   2~   = shut eye face [font = Times New Roman].

So, I add "2" to [AH] vowel assignment keys.
- [AH] = [a/] = [%] = [4] = [2] = [ [ ]
I add "[ (left square bracket)" to [AH] vowel assignment keys.
Because "[" is a flattened (= short sound) U mark, and has square edge, and lies/ reclines back. This just fits u in but.

i.e. U(rotate right/ recline) ⊂  (= subset mark)( shorten the height) [
( non shift-key keyboard. Be careful not to use ] key. ] is another function is assigned. U's bottom is the left side. )
( [ another name "open square bracket" corresponds to ʌ IPA name "open-mid back unrounded".)
ex. bus [b[s], truck [tr[k], subway [s[bwey], jumbo jet [j[mbow jet], bumper [b[mp;], registration number [re`jistrei>sh5n   n[mb;]
"[ (An upset U, bumper, pillbox hat, cover, = IPA symbol ʌ )" is a kind of the cut separator.
If unstressed "[" is treated as a schwa vowel (= IPA symbol ə ),
"[" has always 1st or 2nd stress, so the part after "[" is delayed a bit.     --- High posibility, "[>" or "[`" pair.

Please check it out your English dictionary.
ex. sometimes [s5mtai>mz, s[>mtai`mz,] , sunset [s[>nse`t,] , unable [5ney>b5l,] , unabridged [[`n5bri>jd,] , suspect [s5spe>ct, s[>spe`ct]
- unstressed [ is 5 benchmark/ test word: summation [s5mei>sh5n] --- ∑, sum [s[>m] + noun-ize, in some dictionaries, [s[mei>sh5n]
Imagine more. And be simpler.
[AH] = [ [ ] --- Because,
"H, h (= Italian [acca/ akka])" can be deformed into "[-], [". I adopted the left common part [ of this deformation (= déformer in French).
ex. w[at is t[is?
F[x] format --- F is a mathematical function name. i.e. In this format, [ is related to a function. F[x format also is the same result. Let's think SO!
- schwa ( or shwa, sch is [sh] German spelling)
= n: a neutral middle vowel; occurs in unstressed sylables.

- 5 is middle of 10 (decimal/ deca).
- 6 is middle of 12 (dozen).

Tip: I chose not to supprt "5:, 5;" or "6:, 6;". --- Please use ":, ;".
- S in 7 (R vowel usage, Seven) is next to R in alphabet. -- i.e. opq R S t.. (sequence location)
- 7 is near [ni>7] to schwa 6 on sound.
- 7 is in the words " (The) seven-year itch [(d/5)   sev5n   yi7   i>ch] ".
(1955) Marilyn Monroe [ma9rilin   m5nrow>]
- " Seven Samurai (1954) " , " The Hidden Fortress (1958) [d/5   hid5n   fo8tr5s] "
by Akira Krosawa in Japan.
>> inspired [inspai7 d] >>
" Star Wars (1977) [sta8   wo8   z] " by George Lucas [ jo8j   Looc5s] in USA.
- Stress > is .gt.(= .greater than.) mark.[= decrescendo mark in music.] -- stronger and louder sound/ vowel than others.
> is an INVISIBLE MAN [invi>z5b5l   m@>n]. Looks like, z5b5l is crying "invi".
( " ` (grave) " is invisible too. I made so. 2nd stress mark is written by " >> " or " ` (grave) ". As you like. )
( " ? (question mark) " is invisible too. I made so. you can use it as you like. It has a staccato nuance too. )

ex. exaggeration --- [igz@>>j;rei>sh5n,] , [igz@`j;rei>sh5n,] or [igz@`j;rei?sh5n,] etc.
--------------------------------------------
> is a directional symbol, which anyone can understand that it is a suffix ( not a prefix).
--- cf. if " ', ", ` (= singular, double quote, grave) etc. " is used, we first must check that its usage is suffix type or prefix type.
string1>string2 --- This means that the string1 last vowel utterance is stronger than string2 (top ) vowels.
information [i`nf;mey>sh5n]
infomation (2) [info8>mey>sh5n] , here o8> = o;>7> = o;>7
Explicit staccato [st5c3>tow,] nuance:
The word pronouncing which ends by stressed short vowel + 1 letter consonant, such short vowel causes the staccato.
The staccato pronouncing can be expressed by a short "ts" ( ts sound is noun plural suffix sound).
ex head [he>d] = [he (ts) d], heading [he>din/] -- no staccato.
bag [b@>g] = [b@ (ts) g], big [bi>g] = [bi (ts) g], leg [le (ts) g], bug [b[>g] -- no staccato.
--- experience/ experiment :
No staccato group: bug[b[>g], love[l[>v], come[c[>m], live[li>v], gag[g@>g], jazz[j@>z], log[lo:>g], puff[p[>f].

Is there a consistent rule to staccato or not? If exist, Tel me that rule.
consonants nose/ voiced/ friction sound [ n, ng, m, l, b, v, f, s ] has no staccato.
consonants g, z -- case by case.
b,c,d,f,g,j,k,l,m,n,p,q,s,t,v,s,z,sh,ch --- In left all sound set, c,d,,j,k,p,t,sh,ch are allowed to be staccatoed.
In such case, tress > mark has a (ts) sound property.
A double consonants ( ex. cc, ff, pp,..) spelling notation does not always indicate the staccato place. ex. suffix is not [s[ (ts) fix], support is not [s5 (ts) po8t], press is not [pre (ts) s] , but suppression is [s5pre (ts) sh5n] ok, staccato is [st5 (ts) c3> tow] ok.
- / ( slash or slant) is expected to have below 2 meanings. I made so.
#1/2: cutting short, straight, hard, sharp and no curved.
--- it's applied to the vowels. result: a/, e/, i/, u/.

(Further, I customized the e/,i/,u/ to the implicit e,i,u .
So, a/ is an only one explicit "/" vowel, it is corresponding to the IPA mark of the Large A in which has no horizontal bar.
Alias upside-down Large V. ex. cut, come, double)

#2/2: variant, additional or modified.
--- it's applied to the consonants. result: d/, s/, t/, n/, z/.

(In SAMPA notation, these are corresponding to the capital letters. Lower-case letters are round. )
- Speaking of the letter R [ a8 ], the head letter of the Rainbow.
- Speaking of Rainbow, 7 colors.
( They say that Isaac Newton studied the Rainbow, he assigned 7 colors by analogy with the music tones Do/Re/Mi/Fa/Sol/La/Si . He invented the Newton Ring which is a kind of Prism spectrum device. )

- Speaking of the pronunciation R [ a8 ], its tongue style is curved like a Rainbow.
- Oh! it's the same, above destination.
(cf. www.eo.ucar.edu/rainbows/ ; Learn about Rainbows. )
- 7 = R vowel usage in USA style = IPA symbol [ ɚ (value = rhotacized schwa) ]. --- cf. usual SCHWA is [ ə (value = schwa) ].
Rhotacism = to use the letter r ([rho]) overmuch: An oversounding. -- ρ : greek small letter rho.
This IPA notation expresses that the tongue back position of ɚ has more humped than ə, at the throat entrance (= at the depths of the mouth).
>>> i.e. "R pronouncing" is to narrow ( or choke ) the throat entrance by tongue. cf. burr cf. pronouncing difference: "walk" and "work"
ɚ = ə + (rhotacized).
--- Alias, hooked schwa/ right-hook schwa/ schwa with a hook.
ə is the reflected image of 6 in the standing mirror , if so, ɚ corresponds to 6 with a hooked tail ( 45 degree left rotated 1).
--- Imagine: Modifying the figure 6 to 8, if stopped in the middle, so, it's not 6 nor 8, it is about 7. -- not so bad !?
- 7 ⇒ "hook mark".

Remark:
In words connection, now a2spelling adopts the " R-Linking " as a default function.
So, "Forearm" asifsound is registered in FaLaN, not in FaaN. And you must input corresponding to FaLaN.
This limitation is resolved by adding Forearm into FaN group. i.e. Forearm will be in both FaN and FaLaN.
This dictionary maintenance will be done in the future (?). -- I apologize to you for this limitation/ inconvenience.

cf. The same, "Forever" (= I had scruples [a mind of sins] about this typical word.).
As a sample test, I added this word to FaBa group. Please check it out below.
input [f;re>v;,]( in FaLaBa) or [f;e>v;,]( in FaBa) -- both is supported.

R-linking is done or not depends on a user. So, in fact, I hesitate to maintain the dictionary entry.
I supported 2 mode input , op:eit, op:reit both, without changing dictionary entry. from 2015.02
