Update for 12/18/98
The North Pole was blessed with a beautiful layer of ice in the storm
we had yesterday. It gave a magical appearance to every surface as
the icicles hung from every limb of the trees in the Christmas Tree
Forest and the icy crust on the snow over the rolling hills sparkled
in the moonlight.
ノース・ポールでは昨日の嵐でとてもうつくしい氷の層ができたましたよ。
クリスマス・ツリーの森（想像してみて、森の木が全部クリスマスの飾りをつけ
てるんだよ）の木の枝につららがさがり、丘の斜面では凍結雪が月光をあびてキ
ラキラひかっていたんだ。
And Christmas Pond is perfect for ice skating!! Although the pond
is frozen most of the year, we do not have a Zamboni, one of those
machines to smooth out the ice. So it gets a little rough from time
to time. But after yesterdays storm, it is all smooth again. So
everyone took a break from working, strapped on their ice skates and
went to the pond for some fun.
そしてね、クリスマス・ポンド（池）はスケートにはもってこいの場所。
一年中池は凍っているけどザンボニという氷の表面をなめらかにする機械はなく
てね。それで時々表面がざらざらになるんだ。でも、昨日は嵐があってまた全体
がなめらかになったんだ。みんな仕事（クリスマスのプレゼントを届ける準備）
の合間の休憩時間には、スケート靴をはいて池でひとすべり楽しんだのさ。
The elves found their way across the ice pretty easily, as did the
penguins and the polar bears. The reindeer, on the other hand, were
a little awkward. Even Blizzard and Snowflake made it out on the ice.
Being the first time they had ever been on ice, they were funny to
watch as their legs went out in all directions. But they slowly
learned how to stay up and ended up having a lot of fun.
妖精たちは、ペンギンや北極熊たちとおなじでね、氷の上はかなり楽に歩け
たんだ。でも、トナカイはちょっとぎこちなかったね。
ブリザードとスノーフレーク（11月21日にブリッツェン夫婦を両親として生まれ
たトナカイの双子）がやっとこさ氷の上にでたのだけれど。初めて氷の上に立
つものだから足が全部別々の方向に広がってしまってね、見ているとふきだしそ
うになったよ。でもね、だんだんコツがわかってちゃんと立っていられるように
なってね、ついに歩いたり走ったりが楽しくてしょうがないまでになったんだ。
Mrs. Claus and I had a great time skating. As we skated along,
holding hands, it made us feel like kids ourselves again. Mrs. Claus
was always a marvelous ice skater and in her younger days was able
to do all sorts of spins and jumps. I do a lot of tricky maneuvers
myself, but usually not on purpose. HO! HO! HO! But everyone had a
good time.
オクサンとわたしはね、スケートをしてとっても楽しく過ごしたんだ。スケート
中は手をとりあってね、二人とも子供にもどったような気がしたね。オクサンは
スケートがうまかったんだ、若い時にはありとあらゆるスピンやジャンプをこな
していたよ。わたしはね、オットットのテクニック（つまりひどい格好！）を
見せるスケートを展開しているよ、ま、わざとやっているわけではないけれど。
うん、うん、みんな楽しく過ごしたのだよ。

Update for 12/17/98
One week from tonight is our big trip and things are really running
at a high pace here at the North Pole. We have had to double our
efforts on Barbie dolls and all of her accessories due to the high
demand. We sure don't want to disappoint anyone. And virtual pets
are a real hit with kids this year. The elves have had to really
learn to make efficient use of their time to get them all made in
time.
今夜からちょうど一週間先は世界中を飛びまわるんだな。ここノース・ポールで
はすべてが急ピッチで進んでいるよ。いつもの何倍もの働きをしてバービー人形
やバービーちゃんのいろんなアクセサリーを希望にそえるように準備していると
ころだよ。がっかりする子がいたらかわいそうだからね。今年は子供たちには
ヴァ−チャル・ペットがおおきくヒットしたね。妖精たちは段取りをよくし、時
間を上手に使ってプレゼントを全部間に合わせようと頑張っているんだよ。
Dolls are always popular, but trying to find enough clothes for them
all has not been easy. So many boys and girls have asked for clothes
this year, so our seamstress elves have had to get extra machines
and work overtime just to keep up with all of the requests.
人形はいつでも人気があるね。でも、人形に着せる洋服を用意するのも大変なん
だよ。今年はね、男の子も女の子も大勢が洋服をリクエストしているね。それで
ここのお針子妖精たちはね、みんなの希望をかなえようとしてね、ミシンを増や
して時間外にもせっせと縫ってくれていますよ。
And bikes are really starting to pile up around the workshop. Bikes
of all shapes and sizes are stacking up along the walls. We have been
using them to get around the huge workshop, so at least they are
getting tested well. You should have seen the mess yesterday when one
of the elves lost control of his bike and ran into a huge stack of
board games stacked along one wall. They all came tumbling down, with
marbles and cards and other assorted pieces rolling all over the place!
But we got it all cleaned up and no one was hurt.
そしてね、自転車も作業場には大変な数をうず高く積んで用意していますよ。い
ろんなデザイン、いろんなサイズのが壁に積み重ねてたてかけてあるんだ。わた
したちはね、その自転車をこの広ーーい作業場で乗り回していますよ、だから少
なくとも自転車は試乗検査済みというわけだね。（ここではタイヤは全然汚れま
せんから安心してね。）
昨日の騒ぎはお目にかけたかったね。妖精のひとりが自転車のバランスを失って
ね、壁にもたれかけるようにして積んであったチェスやオセロなどのゲーム箱の
山に突っこんでしまったんだ。箱がなだれ落ちてきて、マーブル（オセロ用）や
カード、その他箱の中のものがあたり一面にころがり出てしまったんですよ。
みなできれいに片づけましたがね。誰も怪我をしなくてよかったなあ。
Remember, I am still watching each and every one of you to make sure
you are being good. I would hate to pass by your house on Christmas
Eve. So now is the time to poor on the good acts. Help by keeping
your room a little cleaner and doing all of your chores without being
told. And as school comes to an end for the year for many of you, be
sure to study hard and do all of your homework so it will not be
waiting for you to do over Christmas!
いいかい、わたしはずっとみなさんひとりひとりが「いい子」をしているかを
しっかり見ていますからね。クリスマス・イヴに君の家の前を（プレゼントを配
らずに）通り過ぎたくはないからね。だからね、いいことをしておくのは今が
チャンスですよ。自分の部屋をいつもよりちょっときれいにお掃除したり、しな
さいと言われる前に毎日の雑用はさっさとすませたりしてね。君たちの多くは、
学校は冬やすみになっているけれども、しっかりお勉強をして、宿題をクリスマ
スから先に持ち越さないようにしておくんだよ。

Update for 12/16/98
Do you enjoy cooking and baking for Christmas? Well, Mrs. Claus and
Kewkie Elf and a lot of the other elves really have a good time ex-
perimenting in the kitchen. And yesterday was the big day for them
to do a lot of baking special for the holidays.
「クリスマス用のお料理やケーキ作り、しているかい？ うちのオクサンと妖精
のキューキィ、ほか大勢の妖精たちはね、台所でいろいろ試すのですよ。昨日は
クリスマス休暇用のケーキ､クッキーをまとめて作るの日だったんだ。
Of course, there were a lot of cookies of all types. Chocolate chip,
peanut butter, sugar cookies, and my favorite, oatmeal raisin. Not
to mention all the other kinds that I can never remember the names of.
But that does not stop me from eating them!
もちろん、クッキーといってもいろんなタイプがたくさんできましたね。チョコ
レート・チップ・クッキー、ピーナツバター・クッキー、シュガー・クッキー、
私の好きなオートミール・レーズン・クッキーなんかね。好きなクッキーの名前
を全部言ってみようというんじゃないんだよ。私が食べ出したらやめられないク
ッキーを言っててみただけなんだ。
And the candy, MY, do they make some good candy. The smells of
peppermint fill the entire workshop when they are making candy canes.
And if I am really good, Mrs. Claus lets me lick the spoon when they
make all the fudge. HO! HO! HO! What a treat that is.
それにキャンディー。うん、とてもおいしいステッキ形のキャンディーも作って
くれるんだ。キャンディーを作ってる時、作業場にはペパーミントの匂いがたち
こめてね。
オクサンはね、私が優しくしてあげたらファッジ（砂糖､バター､牛乳､チョコレ
ートなどでつくる柔らかい固まり）を作っている時にスプーンについたのをなめ
させてくれるんですけれどね。これって嬉しいね！
Fruit cakes and holiday pies are always a treat for us. The smells
that linger after they have completed baking all their goodies are
enough to make me gain weight all by itself. I hope you are able to
take some time this holiday season to enjoy the treats, both in
making them AND eating them. If you have favorite recipes, send
them to me and I will pass them on to Mrs. Claus to see if we can
create a special Holiday cookbook!
フルーツ・ケーキとホリデー・パイも毎年楽しみにしているものなんだ。ケーキ
やクッキーを全部焼き終えた時にはいいにおいが辺りにたちこめるものだから、
それだけで体重がふえてしまいますね。私はね、この時期みなさんもクリスマス
用のお料理を・・焼いたり食べたりできる時間が持てるように願っていますよ。
得意なお料理のレシピがあれば、私の所に送ってくださいね、それをオクサンに
渡して『とっておきクリスマス料理の本』ができるか考えてみますからね。

Update for 12/15/98
I want to tell you about the wonderful Christmas parade we had here
at the North Pole. Frosty the Snowman led the parade right down
Candlestick Lane, the busiest street at the North Pole. The elves
were right behind Frosty pulling on red and green ropes attached to
a LARGE toy box on wheels stuffed full of toys.
ここノース・ポールで催したすばらしいクリスマス・パレードのことをお話し
ましょう。雪だるまのフロスティはパレードを先導してキャンドルスティック
通りを行進してくれましたよ。妖精たちはフロスティのすぐあとに続いて、
おもちゃをいっぱい積んだ車輪付きの大型おもちゃ箱に取り付けてある赤と
グリーンをよりあわせたロープを引っ張ってくれたんだよ。
Next, the penguins marched by doing the Macarena! They were led by
the wisest and oldest penguins. Then the Polar Bear Marching Band
played "Jingle Bells" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". The
youngest bears played the loudest instruments. Everybody was dancing
and singing along.
その次にはペンギンたちがマカレナをしながら行進。賢明な長老たちが先導
したね。次には北極熊マーチ・バンドが「ジングル・ベル」、「サンタが
町にやってくる」を演奏したんだ。一番若いのがいちばん大きな音のでる
楽器を吹いていたね。みんなは、パレードに合わせて踊ったり歌ったりして
いたよ。
As the parade came to an end, Mrs. Claus and I arrived in my magical
sleigh pulled by the eight reindeer (and Rudolph too). Mrs. Claus
was tossing candy to everyone. The sleigh was overflowing with all
sorts of presents for all the good little boys and girls around the
world.
パレードが終わりに近づいた時、オクサンと私は８頭のトナカイ（ルドルフ
も含む）が引く魔法のソリで到着。オクサンはみんなにキャンディーを受け
取れるように投げてあげていたよ。ソリにはね世界中のいい子たちにあげる
プレゼントがあふれんばかりに積まれていたんだよ。
I wish you could have been here to see it for yourself. I will be
looking forward to coming to your town this year on Christmas Eve!
Be sure to be on your best behavior at all times.
君たちが、こちらに来てパレードを見られたらよかったのに・・残念だね。
クリスマス・イヴにみなさんの町に行くこと、待ち遠しなぁ。いつでも
きっとベストの行動をして待っていてね。

Update for 12/14/98
On your mark..... Get set.... GO!!!!
Yesterday was the big day for the Reindeer Games and it was a simply
beautiful day for it! The sun was shining and glistening off the
snow and the wind was even quiet. Perfect conditions for flying.
All of the reindeer at the North Pole participated. There were games
for the little reindeer as well as the big ones. Blizzard and Snow-
flake, the newest reindeer, are still too young to participate, but
they were running up and down the sidelines cheering on their father,
Blitzen. He won the award for the strongest Reindeer by pulling a
huge sleigh full of ice. Almost looked like a tractor pull!
「位置について・・用意・・・ドン！
きのうはトナカイ・レースの日だったんだが、お天気もレースに絶好。 太陽が
出て、雪がきらきら輝いて見えたし、風もなく飛ぶのにはパーフェクトのコンデ
ィションだったよ。ノース・ポールのトナカイはみんな参加したんだ。チビちゃ
ん参加のレースもあったんだ。でも、ブリザードとスノーフレーク（ 月
日付け参照）は、あの生まれたばかりの子達だが、幼すぎて参加は無理、でも、
おとうさんのブリッツェンを応援してコースの脇を走り上がったり降りたりして
いたよ。ブリッツェンはね、氷をいっぱい積んだソリを引く競技で優勝したんだ
がね、トラクターが引っ張っているかのように力強かったよ。
Of course, Rudolph still outshines everyone in the flying skills.
And everyone gets tickled when they see his nose flash. Vixen and
Cupid were winners in the relay races where they had to alternate
between pulling a sleigh full of toys and getting back to a certain
spot to reload. They almost broke the record time!!
もちろんルドルフは飛ぶことにかけてはピカいちだ。みんなルドルフの鼻がピカ
リと光るとついて行きたくてたまらなくなるんだ。ヴィクセンとキューピッドは
おもちゃをいっぱい積んだソリを引っ張って行き決められた場所で荷おろしをす
る、これを交互に繰り返す競技で優勝したんだよ。もうすこしで記録を破るとこ
ろだったのに・・・惜しい！！！
Dasher, Dancer and Donner scored first place in the team navigation.
They were blind folded and led to an unknown location to see how long
it takes for them to find their way back. They are such good navi-
gators, they almost made it back before the team that took them out
in the first place!
ダッシャー、ダンサー、ドナーはチーム・ナビゲーション競技で優勝。目隠しを
されて知らないところに連れて行かれるのだが、どれだけ早くスタート地点にも
どれるかを競うんだ。このチームは、このチームを連れて行った者が帰って来た
のとほとんど同時に到着するほど早かったんだよ
Prancer and Comet put on an aerial display of flying skills that
even made Rudolph proud. They flew in loops and spirals and even
managed to carry some colored smoke canisters and spell MERRY CHRISTMAS
in the sky! The whole day was a lot of fun and we all enjoyed the
break from working.
プランサーとコメットは妖精の飛び方もマスターし、ルドルフはそのことを誇ら
しく感じているんだ。環になったりらせんを描いたり色付きの煙を持って飛び、
空にメリー・クリスマスって綴ったりもするんだよ。
とにかく、一日中仕事から解放されてとても楽しく過ごせたね。

Update for 12/13/98
Tonight at Sunset is the beginning of Hannukah, the Jewish equivalent
to the Christian celebration of the birth of Christ. It commemorates
a miracle that happened in connection with an historical event in
which foreign oppression was heroically resisted by the Jews, thus
preserving the nation and the faith into which Jesus Christ was born
about 160 years later.
今夜日が暮れるとハヌーカが始まるよ、ユダヤ人のお祭りでね、これはキリ
スト教信者がキリストの誕生をお祝いするのと同じことにあたるんだよ。
それはね、歴史上で起きたひとつの奇跡を記念するものなんだ。当時、
ユダヤ人は外圧に雄々しく抵抗して、国家を護り信条を守ったんだが、こ
うした中で、イエス・キリストは１６０年後に生まれたんだ。
Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated for eight days. The
most important observance associated with Hanukkah is the kindling of
the Hanukkah lights on the Menorah or Hanukkiya.
ハヌーカは光りのフェスティバルで、８日間お祭りが続くんだよ。この行事で
ずっと遵守されてきたもっとも大事なことはね、メノラーやハヌーキヤの上に
ハヌーカ祭りのライトをきらきらと輝かさなくてはいけないこと。
The dreidel is a four-sided spinning top. On each side is a Hebrew
letter. Each player places some raisins, candies, or nuts into a
kitty and the players take turns spinning the dreidel. Each character
represents the taking or giving of items from the kitty.
ドレイデルというのは四面型の糸つむぎ機形の遊び道具なんだ。どの面にも
ヘブライ文字が書かれている。ひとりひとりがレーズンやキャンデーやナッツ
を持ってきてはキティという入れ物にいれ、そして、糸つむぎ機を順番にまわ
すんだ。止った面に書かれているヘブライ文字で、キティからレーズンやキャ
ンデーやナッツをもらえるのか入れ（寄付する）なくてはいけないのかが分か
るんだよ。
Hanukkah is a joyful family festival. Gifts are exchanged, parties
are given, children play games, and latkes (potato cakes) and
sufganiyot (doughnuts) are served. These are delicacies made with oil,
long associated with Hanukkah.
ハヌーカは家族で楽しむお祭りなんだ。プレゼント交換があるし、パーティも
ある、子供たちはゲームをして、ラトキ（ポテト・ケーキ）やサガニヨ（ドー
ナツ）が出るんだ。これらのお菓子は油を加えて作る美味しいお菓子で
ハヌーカには昔からつきものなんだよ。

Update for 12/12/98
The Snow Fairies arrived at the North Pole yesterday. They are a
little late compared to most year but we are always happy to see them.
スノー・フェアリー（雪の妖精）たちはきのうノース・ポールに到着したよ。
例年よりは少し遅く着いたんだけれど、でもフェアリーたちに会えてみんなは
うれしいんだよ。
What? You do not know about the Snow Fairies? I thought everyone
knew about them! The Snow Fairies are extraordinary artists with ice
and snow! Have you ever seen a beautiful pattern on your window when
it forms ice? The Snow Fairies painted that just for you. The
wonderful glow around the sun when the snow is blowing in the air was
formed by the steady efforts of the Snow Fairies. All the icicles
hanging from the edge of your house were made by the magnificent
sculpting abilities of the Snow Fairies.
何だって？ スノー・フェアリーのこと知らないって？ 誰もが知っている
ものだと思っていたのに！ スノー・フェアリーたちはね、氷と雪の操作に
かけては並外れて素晴らしいアーティストなんだよ。窓ガラスに氷が張る時
の美しい模様を見た事があるかい？ あれはスノー・フェアリーが君のため
にやってくれたんだよ。雪が空中を舞っている時に太陽のまわりが不思議に
きらきら光っているのはね、スノー・フェアリーたちが途切れることなく努
力しているお陰なんだよ。君の家の屋根から下がっているつららも全部
スノー・フェアリーたちの見事な彫刻能力によるものなんだよ。
Mother Nature would not be able to make such a beautiful time of year
without the help of the Snow Fairies. The next time you look out
onto a wintery landscape and marvel at the beauty of it, be sure to
thank the Snow Fairies for visiting you and doing their work!
スノー・フェアリーたちが協力しなかったら、母なる自然も、一年じゅうで
こんなに美しい季節をつくることができないだろうね。今度、君が外の冬景色
を見てその美しさに驚く時には、スノー・フェアリーたちがそこにやってきて
ひと働きしてくれたんだなって感謝するんだよ。

Update for 12/11/98
Did you see the shooting star last night from where you are? We had
a beautiful view from here at the North Pole. And I think that
particular shooting star had some magic with it as it passed over.
For once it passed by, strange things began to happen here at the
workshop.
昨夜、きみたちの住んでいるところからは流れ星が見えたかな？ ここノース
ポールからはすばらしいのが見えたんだよ。あの特別な流れ星がすうっと流れ
た時、ちょっとした魔法がかかったんだと思うんだよ。だって、流れ星が流れ
たあと、奇妙なことがこのワークショップ（作業所）で起こり始めたんだから。
The Teddy Bears all began dancing at the same time. There arms and
legs were swinging and their eyes had a magical twinkle in them. The
toy soldiers all began marching in time to each other, forming a single
file line all across the floor. The dolls all started speaking at the
same time, and every ball we had in the workshop started to bounce off
the walls and everything else. We were lucky they did not break any
windows.
テディベアは全員同時にダンスを始めたんだ。腕、足はスゥイングし、目は
不思議にきらきらしていたよ。オモチャの兵隊はみんなお互いに調子を合わせ
て行進をはじめ、縦一列に並んだよ。人形たちはみんな同時に口をきき始め、
ワークショップにあるボールというボールは全部壁やそこいらから跳び上がり
始めたんだよ。窓ガラスを割らなかったのはラッキーだったね。
The rocking horses all rocked at the same time, while the electric
trains started "Woo Woo"ing and the cars started "Honk Honk"ing. On
top of all that, every light in the place started to twinkle and
flash until the entire room looked like it had a life of its own!
揺り木馬も全員同時に揺れ始めたし、電気じかけの汽車は「ウー、ウー
さあ、スタートだ。」と、動きはじめると、自動車たちは「ブー、ブー、」
と、走り始めたんだ。みんながそんなふうに動き出した頭上では、すべての
照明がちかちかしたりパッパッっと閃光を出したりしはじめ、ついに、部屋
全体が「ひとつの生命体」であるかのように見えたんだよ。
But as fast as it all started, it suddenly stopped. Every Teddy,
soldier, doll, ball, train, horse and car was back in its place and
the lights all returned to normal. At first, each of us thought we
imagined it. But after we started talking about it, we realized we
could not have all imagined the same thing. It was a truly amazing
experience!
けれども、全部がそんなふうに始まるやいなや、突然終わってしまったのさ。
テディも兵隊も人形も汽車も木馬も車もぜんぶ元の位置にもどり、照明も
ぜんぶ平常どおりにもどったんだ。最初わたしたちは、あのシーンはわたし
たちの想像だった、と思ったのさ。でも、みんなでそのことについて話して
みて、想像なんかじゃあり得ないってわかったのだよ。ほんとにあれは、
すばらしい驚きの体験だったよ。

Update for 12/10/98（１２月１０日）
Good News!! After Donner hurt himself in a little race last week,
Doc Weatherspoon Elf declared he had only sprained his right rear
hoof. Doc said he would be fine if he stayed off of it for a while
and let it heal.
いいニュースだよ！ ドナーが先週ちょっとした競争をして怪我をした時、
ウェザースプーンという名の妖精のお医者は、ドナーは右後ろ足のひづめの
ところを捻挫（ねんざ）しただけでたいしたことはないと言ってくれたんだ。
ドクターはね、ドナーがしばらくそこを触らないようにして治そうとすれば
大丈夫だって言ったんだ。
Well, poor Donner has never felt so helpless in his life. Since he
is one of the important members of the team, EVERYONE was making sure
he did what the doctor ordered. He could not get up for anything and
the elves and other reindeer waited on him hand and foot.
そのぅ、かわいそうにドナーは今までこれほど心細くなったことはなかったん
だよ。ソリ・チームの大事なメンバーだから、ひとりひとりみんな、ドナーが
ドクターの言うとおりにできるよう気を使ったんだよ。ドナーは立ち上がって
物を取ることができなかったから、妖精たちはすぐそばにいてドナーの希望を
聞いてはまめまめしく動いてあげたんだよ。
Today he stood on his own for the first time since the accident. And
it is all better!! He will be working to strengthen it over the next
few days. But if he does not overdo it, he should be ready for the
reindeer games this weekend!! And most importantly, he will be good
and strong for our big night on Christmas Eve!
今日は、ドナーが事故以来、自分の足で立った最初の日なんだ。すっかりよくな
ったんだよ。あと数日その足をしっかりさせるためのリハビリをやるんだ。で、
リハビリをやり過ぎてヘタをしなければ、今週の週末のトナカイ・ゲームに参加
できるだろうね！ なんといっても重要なことは、晴れ舞台のクリスマス・イヴ
にはすっかり回復した足で活躍してもらうってことだ。

NORTH POLE UPDATES - 12/9/98
Today is a Special Day at the North Pole! Today we celebrate all of
the December Birthdays at one time. There are a lot of elves who
work here at the Workshop wit December birthdays, so we decided to
have one big party for them all at one time.They will have the after-
noon off so we can all have a good time.
きょうはノースポールでは特別の日なんだよ。12月生まれ全員のお誕生日をお祝
いする日なんだ。ここのワークショップ（作業所）には12月生まれの妖精が大勢
いてね、（12月は忙しいから）一度にみんなまとめてビッグ・パーティをしよう
と決めたんだよ。午後は作業はお休みにして楽しいパーティだ。
Mrs. Claus is baking a big Birthday Cake in the shape of a Toy Soldier
with all kinds of different color frostings on it. One of the rooms
on our house is all decorated with streamers and banners. We even have
had some of the younger elves make special Birthday cards to give to
all the elves.
ミセス・クラウス（サンタの奥さん）はね、オモチャの兵隊の形をしたバース
デー・ケーキを焼いてね、いろんな色の粉砂糖で飾ってくれたんだ。パーティの
部屋には吹き流しやバナー（旗）がたくさんはためいているんだ。若い妖精には
先輩妖精に贈るバースデー・カードを用意してもらったんだよ。
And games! We will be playing a lot of games to celebrate all the
birthdays.This should be a very special day that no one will soon forget.
