Urashima Taro

Narrator
: Once upon a time in a village near the sea,
       there lived a young man who was very kind.
Urashima: My name is Taro.
        Urashima Taro.
        I'm a fisherman.
        I catch fish.
Narrator: One day, he saw a group of children and a turtle on the beach.
Child 1: Take this, turtle! You're so ugly.
Child 2: Take this, turtle! You're so ugly.
Child 3: Take this, turtle! You're so slow.
Child 4: Take this, turtle! You're so slow.
Turtle: Help! Help! Someone, help!
Urashima: You kids, stop! Stop right now!
        Don't you know it's bad to pick at small animals
?
Children: Uh-oh! A good guy's here!
       Let's get out of here. Let's go!
Turtle: Thank you.
     You're very kind.
     And you are a good man.
     I'll take you to the palace under the sea.
     Hop on. I'll take you to the palace.

Narrator: Urashima Taro and the turtle went down deep under the sea.
       They arrived at the palace, called Ryugujo.
       The Princess Otohime welcomed Urashima Taro.
Otohime: Welcome to the palace, Urashima Taro.
        Welcome to the world under the sea.
        You saved the turtle from the bad children.
All the fish: He saved the turtle from the bad children.
        He is a good man.
Otohime: You can stay at the palace as long as you wish.
All the fish: Please stay at the palace as long as you wish.
Urashima: Thank you, Princess.
        You're very kind.
        But I'll go home tomorrow.
All the fish: He'll go home tomorrow.
        He'll go home tomorrow.
Otohime: Dance! Dance! Dance! Dance!
       Dance till your fins are tired.
All the fish: Dance! Dance! Dance! Dance!
        Dance till your fins are tired.
Otohime: Sing! Sing! Sing! Sing!
       Sing till your lungs are tired.
All the fish: Sing! Sing! Sing! Sing!
        Sing till your lungs are tired.
Otohime: Eat! Eat! Eat! Eat!
       Eat till your jaws are tired.
All the fish: Eat! Eat! Eat! Eat!
        Eat till your jaws are tired.

Narrator: Urashima Taro had a good time at the palace and forgot about
       going home. But, one day he remembered he was a fisherman
       and had a home above the sea.

Urashima: Good-bye, Princess. I have to go home.
Otohime: Please don't go. I want you to stay.
Urashima: I want to go home. I have to go home.
Otohime: I'll miss you, Urashima Taro.
       This is a present for you.
       There's magic inside the box.
       Please don't open it unless you're in trouble.

Narrator: The turtle brought Urashima Taro back to the beach.
       Urashima Taro walked back to his village but the village looked very
       different. He found a young man, wearing a T-shirt, jeans and rollerblades.

Urashima: Where's my house?
Young man: I don't know.
Urashima: Where's my mother?
Young man
: I don't know.
Urashima: What's this?
Young man
: It's a cell phone.
Urashima: What's that?
Young man
: It's a bike.
Urashima: What are these?
Young man
: They're rollerblades.
Urashima: What are those?
Young man
: They're cars.
Urashima: What year is it?
Young man
: It's 2005!

Narrator: Urashima Taro was at the palace under the sea too long.
       Everything had changed.
       Urashima Taro remembered the magic box the princess had given him.
       He opend the box.
       White smoke came out of the box.
       And Urashima Taro become a very old man.

[The Epilogue]

Turtle: Urashima Taro stayed at the palace too long.
All the fish: Too long.
Turtle: He stayed at the palace for 100 days.
All the fish: 100 days. 100 days.
Turtle: One day under the sea is one year above the sea.
All the fish: One day under the sea is one year above the sea.
Turtle: He should have stayed at the palace.
All the fish: He should have stayed at the palace.

Princess: He should have stayed at the palace.
       He should have stayed with me.
       He should have listened to me.
