Hynobius kimurae (Egg Sacs)

Egg Sacs
A pair of egg sacs of the salamander Hynobius kimurae, deposited under a stone in a torrent covered with deep snow (approximately 50 cm: also see another population).

This torrent had a water temperature of about 6 C at the time of observation. I photographed those egg sacs on 25 April 1992 around the top of Mt. Iwatake-yama (1289.6 m elevation), Hakuba-mura, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. This site affords a view of the Hakuba mountain range (Hakuba Three Peaks).

Accompanied Collaborators: Masaichi Kakegawa, Fujio Kishi, and other members of the meeting for the observation of H. kimurae.
