Mongolian Nomad

Mongolian Nomad

A young nomad and his horse in our camp site of Darhadyn Wetland, Mongolia (photographed on 18 July 2004).

Nomadic mobile-tents, called "ger" or "yurt," were sporadically found near the camp site, with a great number of livestock-animals (sheep, cow, yak, and so forth). This young nomad visited the camp site to get a bride by letting a young woman ride on horseback.

In a nomadic community of Mongolia, riding of a young woman on horseback of a young man means her acceptance of his proposal.
