Box Zartsaa
A grasshopper, called "Box Zartsaa" in Mongolian. This grasshopper was found in a side of a river, having a slowly flowing stream that formed several backwaters, in a complete grassland area without any trees between Darkhad Valley and Muren, Mongolia. Hence, this area was not a site proposed for camping. These photographs were taken by Tomoyuki Sano (Himeji Dokkyo University) around 2100 h on 24 July 2004 (sunset occurred around 2300 h).
(A) Ventral view of Box Zartsaa. A shape of the tips of right and left forelimbs of this species looked like a boxing glove. This may be an origin of its name. I don't know whether it is endemic to Mongolia.
(B) Lateral view of Box Zartsaa, nipped by my left thumb and forefinger. Note each nail of my fingers, soiled due to the field survey in Darhadyn Wetland.
