Special: Spiranthes Sinensis or Mojizuri, Nejibana
They grow on the ridge between rice fields as well, and 10 to 20 cms tall. The bell-shaped tiny flowers make a twisted line around the stem. "Neji(nejireru)" means "get twisted" and "bana(hana)" means "flower." |
With a click a new window opens. This year I found them in a neighbour park. They are twisted clockwise and counterclockwise. Some have only one twist, but some have many twists around the stem. |
It might be true that one poem in "Hyakunin-isshu(100 poems)" is said to be the origin of the name of this flower. Many of the Japanese look at Mojizuri with affection or nostalgia. |
