Appreciation of Nature

Part-46: The Brown Hawk Owl Family, or Aobazuku

( Ed. Feb.13, 2000 )

Ms. Katsuko Osawa took pictures of them in Nose, Osaka Pref. And I owe most of the comment to her. Thank you SO much, Osawa-san.

I am the Father.

Have you ever heard of the famous "Huge Keyaki (Tree)" in Nose-cho(town), North of Osaka Pref.?This is where the family of Brown Hawk Owl made the most of the hole of the tree-trunk and started a family. The parents have two chickens.

And I am the mother (left). And here are our sons(?).

The chickens got out of the nest on July 22, but stayed on the tree for about a week to be trained. Then all of the family flew away on July 30. We hear the year before the last Brown Hawk Owls came to the Keyaki. Will we be watching another family next year?

You view the pics of them in 2003 Here.
