Appreciation of Nature
For months I was being very busy taking care of Walt, the beardy puppy. But now I think I am going to make Nature pages as I did before.
Part 54: May - Early June
(Update: June 1 & 14, 2001)
"Niwazekishou" in Japanese. They come in red, white and purple, 10cm tall, open only when the sun shines. They grow in group. Big group makes "a pretty carpet!"
Close-ups.
"Yukino-shita" means "Under the snow." Because they don't die with snow over them. Tomitako Makino, a botanist, see white flower as snow with green leaves under it.
What are these called in your country?
Perennial (plant). They grow in groups. In my garden 6 stems appeared this year.
Close-ups
On my reference book they show 10 stamens, while these in my pictures have only 7, it seems. Oh, yes, there are three more stamens almost horizontal in the center, longer than two pistils.
Close-ups again
You see 10 stamens like the spokes of a wheel this time. And 2 pistils, too. (This picture was taken on 2nd and added on 14th.)
