・It is 〜 that Ｓ' should... の形で should が使われる
場合がある。
〜 に入るのは、important, necessary, essential, vital
desirable, urgent など、行動の重要性を表す形容詞である。
〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜
(a) It is important that he should attend every day.
「彼が毎日出席することが重要です」
(b) It is important that he attend every day.
「(a) と同じ」
(a)(b) ともに（“Oxford ADVANCED LEARNER'S Dictionary 7th edition”
important の項より引用）

(b) のように should が省略された〔原形〕attend が使われることがある。
(a)はイギリス英語。(b)はアメリカ英語。
important の見出しで調べると、原形の方は LONGMAN辞書にも例文があった
が、should の方はなかった。to不定詞を使った構文はあった。
(c) It is important for him to attend every day.
「(a)(b)とおなじ」

これが素直なのかも知れない。
（１）の例文に登場する it は、いずれも〔形式主語〕と呼ばれるもので、
本当の主語は、〔that節〕または〔to不定詞句〕。

(d) Is it necessary that my uncle should be informed?
「私のおじが知らせを受けることは必要ですか」
→「私のおじに知らせるのは必要ですか」

上掲２辞書の necessary のところで、should の例文を見つけることはでき
なかった。should を取ると(d)は、
(e) Is it necessary that my uncle be informed?
となる。この他 Practical English Usage 3rd Edition には、略式表現が
使える場では、次のような文が好まれるとある。

that 節中は、should map out の間に、副詞句（前置詞句）without delay
「遅れることなしに」が割り込んでいる。map out は「（計画などを）綿密に
立てる」。
ジーニアスの essential の項に例文あり。原形が英米正式、should が英正
式とある。これは、ここで学習している It is 〜 that... のすべてに共通な
のだろう。

辞書・参考書では、should の例文見つけられず。
これは探偵ポアロの発言。him は「殺人者」。it は「証拠の品」。
destroy は「破壊する」「こわす」の方が普通だが、ポアロは書類のような物
と想像している。

学習者用に(k)は「イギリス英語」、(l)は「北アメリカ英語」と書かれ、続
けて記載されていた。
interest は「利子」「利息」。「利益」という意味にあたるときもある。
もちろん「興味」「関心」という意味になるときも。

property は〔名詞〕で、「所有物」「財産」「不動産」「性質」という意
味です。コンピューター用語のプロパティはこれです。「属性」と訳されるこ
とがあります。ファイルの「性質」や「特性」などが示されています。

● あとがき
３日前から愛機のＯＳの状態がおかしく、ブラウザ使用中に固まり、動かな
くなります。その後は通常の終了作業もできず、強制終了を続けております。
３日前は、ちょうど Microsoft Update というのを有効にした日です。ひと
まず切っておきます。ただ単にインターネットの接続速度が、以前より格段に
落ちただけかも知れませんが……。
