my friend は、呼びかけ。ソクラテスの回想話を、今聞いてくれている人物を指した言葉。
know の目的語は、that節。
measure は、cannnot の後ろにあるので〔動詞〕。「測定する」「評価する」
cannot...anything と not...any の形は、「全然……ない」。
of the beautiful は、measure of the beautiful となるのではないかと考えた。でも、この of が意味不明。これで「美（人）を評価する（ことなんて全然できない）」とくるのだろうか。しかし、動詞 measure に、“of＋目的語”の例はないようだ。ただし、名詞measure には、“measure of 名詞”の使い方がたくさんある。「名詞の測定器」。それで、この名詞の使い方につられて、動詞measure にも of を使ってしまったのではないか。そう考えて、
「ねえ、友人よ、君も知っている通り、私には何事につけても、審査眼は全然持っていないよ。もちろん、美（男子）についてもね」
と訳してみた。でも、先ほどのことも気にかかり、しばらく前後を見つめていると、
ああ、そうか。of the beautiful は、I am simply... の節（後ろの節）を修飾する〔副詞句〕なのか。「美（男子）については、私は…」とすればいいのだ。となった。
“the＋形容詞”は、「形容詞の人々」とか「形容詞の表す名詞形」、この場合では、the beautifulが、beautiful people または beauty を表すことがある。これはこちらでも説明してある。

前方に as, such, the same がある後方の as は、〔関係代名詞〕の可能性がある。
as が〔関係代名詞〕ならば、〔先行詞〕は a measure。これは、as より後ろの節のどこに入るのか。

これが〔先行詞〕a measure を修飾しているように訳せばよいので、

これは、セミコロンが振られている箇所から考えて、when he entered と and a troop of... は、時間がずれているように訳したほうがいいのだろうか。なぜか、つなげたくなった。

なあ、友人よ。君も知っているように、私は何かを評価する目なんて、これっぽっちも持ち合わせていないんだ。美についても、私は、チョークで引かれた白線が物差しになっているようなもので、まるで役に立たないんだ。私の目には、若者ならばみんな美しく見えてしまうんだから。
しかし、あの時は違った。彼が入ってくるのを見た時、正直、彼の美しさと威厳にとりつかれてしまった。世界中が彼に恋してしまっているようだった。彼が愛人たち（取り巻き）の一団を引き連れて入ってくると、驚嘆と混乱がその場を支配した。
