Viewing the contrast of beautiful white mortar and cedar panels on the walls, wooden slatted lattices in a row, a miniature second story, black roof tiles with decorative designs and an overtopped small roof for smoke ventilation etc., there are a lot of tourists' attractions here in the traditional landscape of old merchants' residences and Buddhist temples of the Edo era (from the 17th through middle of the 19th century). As the time of construction differs from each other, so many buildings have shown so many variety of architecutural structures and designs. The historical district, Tondabayashi Jinaimachi, located in the south-eastern part of Osaka prefecture, Japan, remains, as it were, "an outdoor museum" of old wooden architecture. Why don't you visit the invaluable heritage site this coming weekend?
This website is intended to introduce my hometown, Jinaimachi in Tondabayashi
city, Osaka pref., Japan. In the historical district of Tondabayashi Jinaimachi,
there remain as many as 40 old town houses built from the Edo period through
the early Showa era (the early 20th century) , as it looks like a movie
location site and here you can enjoy a time-slipping journey. The town
area has been designated as an important historical district and heritage
site of Japan. Why don't you drop in another kind of theme park than the
Universal Studio Japan?
Thirty minutes' train ride from the center of Osaka (Abenobashi terminal
of Kintetsu Railways) will take you to the heritage site of Tondabayashi,
Jinaimachi. You may enjoy a lot of new historical, cultural and architectural
findings by taking a walk here. You might also come across an idea how
important to inherit and preserve an invaluable heritage site forever.-
