【Tourist guide to Jinaimachi town, Tondabayashi, a historic district and heritage site of Japan, Pottery Workshop Asuka】
The pottery workshop is located at the south edge of the Jyounomonsuji street or Jinaimachi historic district area. A slope of the river terrace nearby the workshop leads down to the Ishikawa river in 10 minutes. The shop is located at the tip of the hill and you can look at a surface of the Ishikawa river and Nijo, Katsuragi, Kongo mountain ranges. The workshop of the calm atmosphere stands in good harmony with the townscape of the circumference, in the case of walking around the Jinaimachi historic district, I suggest you to drop in here by all means. In a 2-minute walk, there is a stone post where used to be the entrance (Kouda slope) of the town along the old Higashikoya highway. The stone post looked out for fire to travelers while they passed through the town.

An old townhouse was retrofitted to the workshop.

In the bright shop where the ceramics of the storekeeper handicraft formed a line crowdedly, "2014 100 CUPS" special exhibition was held during the period from Thursday, May 1, 2014 to Thursday, May 15.

The 100 masterpieces of elaborate handicrafts with discerning gem are being displayed. Each combination of a pattern and a hue pleases eyes.

You can take a rest during the walking and can enjoy coffee here.

Pottery Workshop Asuka

The exterior look of the ceramic pottery art workshop is well fitted to the townscape of the historic district. The ceramic art classroom is open, too. An old private house was retrofitted to the store and opened in April, 2001. The naming of the shop may remind us of ancient times of Asuka when new technology was brought from overseas to Japan as well as of the area where ancient capital of the country was there in the 7th century.
