Trade name: Sadofuji
This family derived from the Nakamura family (Sado-ya), and the founder Toubeiestablished it as branch family in 1820. Therefore, the trade name of the family was called as Sadofuji and they named the Sato from the second generation. They run brewing the koubaishu mirin, or Japanese sweet sake made of Japanese appricot with red blossomsas which were used as seasoning. Many storehouses have been now left in the site.
Features of the buildings
The main building (Irimoya style building) is located in the southeast section of the site and the residence of its branch family (built in the Meiji period) is connected to the west. Though the construction time of the main building is not clear, the main building almost keeps the original form. The floor plan of the interior building is gorgeous. When entering the earthen floor on the left, koniwa and shimomise space as shopfront are laid out and kamado as a cooking oven is placed behind. The four living rooms line up such as chouba, mise, nakano-ma and Daidoko, next to Hirosiki room. The small eaves (for rainwater drainer) set up in the storehouse facing the Jyounomon-suji street look characteristic.
