The development of the Pacific Ocean low pressure unfortunately caused the rainy weather in Osaka all day from 8 o'clock to 19 o'clock.

The town developmnet promotion board by agriculture, food and tourism organized a local seminar, aiming at creating system to have more foreign travelers visit Jinaimachi town. By advanced application, seven people took part in the seminar who live in Tondabayashi city and its surrounding Kawachinagano city and Kanan cho in Minami Kawachi region. In addition, those who supported the seminar with Tondabayashi City Municipality, Tondabayashi International Exchange Association and Osaka Prefecture joined the seminar, too. The participation in the seminar is for free of charge. I am the lecturer of the seminar.

The venue of the seminar in the morning is the community space on the second floor of Tourist Information Center or Kirameki factory, which is located in a 2-minute walk from the Tondabayashi station south exit. It is the regional sightseeing promotion facility which opened newly in May, 2015. At first, after the self-introduction of the participants, I gave an explanation about the highlight of the Tondabayashi Jinaimachi while reflecting my own homepage (English version) and the PowerPoint slide that I prepared for beforehand on the wall. If there is an opportunity, each participant desires to have foreign visitors guided in English in Jinaimach. In addition, I showed a part of the English translation page of this homepage about the point that seemed related while asking about the interest of everybody.

Furthermore, it is supported by analysis of the access log of the homepage that the interest in information about the shops and restaurants is the highest among visitors. In Jinaimachi, even though attractive restaurants and shops increased more than the past, it is more expected that such shops to be able to invite more repeated visitors. I also listened to the participants' opinions on both necessary hardware and software to attract foreign visitors in Jinaimachi as well as we have exchanged views how to explain Japanese culture and history to foreign travellers whose number tends to increase.

After the lunch time (free time from 12:30 until 13:30) , moving to another location of the former Tanaka familiy residence, a registered cultural property of the country, located in a 10-minute walk from Tondabayashi Station where the inside of the building is opened to the public, we continued to have the seminar session on the site and by really observing the inside of the traditional style house built in the Meiji era we discussed each other what kind of matter foreigner tourists seem to be interested in and assumed what kind of question they might have.

While in approximately one hour having the participants take off shoes and sit down on the Japanese traditional tatami floor mat in the guest room of high residential architecture style called zasiki-no-ma with Tokonoma (alcove) and staggered shelves, I have asked them to consider the change of Japanese lifestyle that westernized since the modernization of the Mieiji Restoration, comparing the difference between then house constructed in 1892 and the modern Japan house concretely.

I have shown the layout of the buidling inside, such as the entrance and earthen dirt floor connecting to the kitchen room, the raised tatami mat rooms consisting of typical four traditional rooms called mise-no-ma, zasiki-no-ma, butsuma and Ima or living room. I also showed in turn a shoji sliding paper-door, a snow- viewing shoji sliding door, tokonoma or alcove, chigai-dana or staggered shelves, a hanging scroll, nageshi or a decorated fook on horizontal piece of timber, a carved wooden panel sculpture above paper sliding door in turn. We have exchanged views on potential utilization of vacant old private houses in Jinaimachi town for guesthouse for foreign visitors to experience short stay there and enjoy the traditional Japanese lifestyle while the Japanese government, local governmnets mass media and local community often rose to a topic to accomodate the increase of foreign travellers and solve the shortage of hotel rooms in Japan at the same time.

The land and building property, after being donated by the owner to Tondabayashi city, was subjected to seismic reinforcement work before open to the public by Tondabayashi city. As can be seen in a state of seismic reinforcement work of the wall in the back of the altar room, it is also real exhibition of reinforcing material embedded in the wall. In addition, wooden staircases are also left to climb to the second floor with some storage space available as drawers under the stairstaps.

At the end of the guidance, a commemorative group photo among all the participants was taken as shown above in the mise-no-ma or storefront room next to the entrance and then the seminar had concludeded and disassemmbled there as scheduled, fortunately just before a heavy rain started. Thank you for joing the seminar session on the day.

During the free time on the day, I just dropped in for the first time at the cafe and cake restaurant named Mame-to-Kona for lunch, which newly opened along the central shopping street toward Jinaimachi historic district from the Tondabayashi Station south exit in November, 2015.

I highly appreciated the honey taste French toast of the mellow flavor and the pumpkin soup. All were particular taste. The owner carefully chooses even a certain supplier of the bread. The muffin is also a popular product. The dining of the shop is bright facing the outside garden and is the space that is good to talk with a friend leisurely while seated at a wooden table. In going and returning of Jinaimachi histroric district, please be sure to drop in at Cafe restaurant Mame-to-Kona.

Open from 10:30 to 17:30. Closed on Monday and Thursday, +81-0721-55-3324.

Koushouji Betsuin Temple (Tondabayashi Gobo)

Koushouji Betsuin Temple is a temple of Jodo Shinshu School (Ikkoushuu School), which became the center of the development and establishment of Jinaimachi town in Tondabayashi . It has been popular as Mr. Gobo (Tondabayashi Gobo) among the local residents.

During the Ouei period (1394-1412years) , theincipient temple was opened in Ebitani village. In 1560, Shoushuu Shonin, the 16th head priest of Koushouji Sect. in Kyoto dismantled the building and reconstructedit to the present location, adjacent to Ebitani village.

The temple gate looks toward the east and the Jyounomon-suji street. Those buildings such as the bell tower, the drum tower, the main hall, the reception hall and priest's quarters are set up and arranged.

The main gate has refined style and it became clear in a recent investigation that the gate was further relocated from Koushouji temple in Kyoto, which was originally said to be dismantled and reconstructed from one of the gates at Fushimi castle in Kyoto.

Koushouji Betsuin Temple was designated as an important cultural property of the country in 2014.
