【Tourist guide to Jinaimachi town, Tondabayashi, a historic district and heritage site of Japan,Travelogues by Author - Series Vol. 66 Bilingual guided tour on May 1-5, 2019】
The era of "Heisei", which lasted for about 30 years, ended on April 30 with the abbot of the Emperor and the throne of the new Emperor, and the era of "Reiwa" began on May 1 the following day. Because of this, this year's Golden Week has been extended for 10 consecutive holidays from April 27 (Sat) to May 6 (Mon). Many people were involved in the experience that can not usually be done by going out to domestic and foreign countries, starting new club activities and community activities, and many people participated in events in various places.

I returned to my parents' home and held "Historic District Walikng Bilingual Guide Tour 2019 Spring", which became an annual event in Tondabayashi Jinaimachi historic distrct, for five days from May 1 to 5, 2019. (10 times in total). The tour plan was announced on the website in early April, and participants were invited to make reservations in advance. With the cooperation of the Jinaimachi Visitor Center, Kirameki Factory (Tondabayashi City Tourism Association) and the Tondabayashi City Office Cultural Property Division, we were able to successfully hold the event.

The number of participants is as follows. The guide presentation in English language was made in addition that in Japanese language when foreign visitors occasionally joined the guide tour.

The number of foreign visitors visiting Japan has reached a record high in 2018 (Jan-Dec). There are no days when you don't see foreign travelers with suitcases in the streets, restaurants or train cars. Japan's everyday scenery is being sent out around the world as photo information on the smartphone's SNS. Many foreign travelers are visiting hot spots from a foreigner's point of view that Japanese people do not often visit.

Through the special program of “Historic District Walking Bilingual Guide Tour 2019 Spring,” I realized that the number of foreign tourists who enjoy individual travel also increased in Tondabayashi Jinaimachi historic district. The figure of a foreign woman who sits down on the stone steps at the corner of the street in Jinaimachi histroic district and looks at leisurely old houses is very much impressive. The next day she participated in the bilingual guide tour, but she stayed for a few days in the guest house "Tomari-ya", a female-only guest house in Tondabayashi Jinaimachi historic district, and it seemed like enjoying different cultures.

Ms.Tsuyuko Isonokami, a female poet of the Meiji period, was born as the eldest daughter of the Sugiyama family, lived a life full of ups and downs and became a model of Toyoko Yamazaki's novel "Kamon" (Shincho Bunko Series).
The new era "Reiwa" started on May 1, 2019.
"Historic district walking bilingual guide tour 2019 spring" was published as an introductory article in The Asahi Shimbun morning edition (Osaka area version) on the first day of Reiwa era. Many people with interest and interest took part in the guided tour by viewing the articles of the Asahi Shimbun.

As a result, a total of 149 people participated in the tour in 5 days, including advance reservation participation, participation on the day, and participation on the way after departure of the tour. Nine foreign travelers are also included. Unfortunately, the first day was a rainy day, but the rest of the day was blessed with beautiful weather and it was summer day. It is a great success of the guide tours, so I am so glad. I valued the encounter with everyone once in a lifetime, which means Ichigo-Ichie in Japanese, I worked hard to guide you.

Also, if you have a chance, please visit Tondabayashi Jinaimchi histric dostrict for "slow life" and "time and space for healing". We look forward to your visit again. Thank you for your participation.

National conservation district of valuable traditional buildings

Jinaimachi town, a part of Tondabayashi-cho located in Tonadabayashi city has been chosen as a national conservation district of valuable traditional buildings since 1997, which is only selected in Osaka Prefecture. Among approximately 500 buildings in the town, 181 buildings built during the period from the Edo era to the early Showa era have been identified as traditional buildings.

An application for prior approval to the section of cultural properties in board of education of Tondabayashi city is required when any change of current exterior appearances viewed from a street in the conservation district such as enlargement, renovation, repair, redecoration, change of the color, new construction and demolition of any buildings is to be made. After repairing works for the conservation of the exterior appearances, the reconstruction and face-lifting in consideration of landscaping, a white wall, a board fence, and a lattice door of traditional house remain as used to be, and rustic and calm atmosphere has been kept as people still live in those houses.

The signpost is provided with main traditional residences to explain each origin and history, and those guiding signposts cum street lights have been placed along the streets of stone-pavement.

In addition, the appearances of newly built buildings are also harmonized with the neighboring historic district in consideration for the traditional townscape in Jinaimachi town.

Koushouji Betsuin Temple (Tondabayashi Gobo)

Koushouji Betsuin Temple is a temple of Jodo Shinshu School (Ikkoushuu School), which became the center of the development and establishment of Jinaimachi town in Tondabayashi . It has been popular as Mr. Gobo (Tondabayashi Gobo) among the local residents.

During the Ouei period (1394-1412years) , theincipient temple was opened in Ebitani village. In 1560, Shoushuu Shonin, the 16th head priest of Koushouji Sect. in Kyoto dismantled the building and reconstructedit to the present location, adjacent to Ebitani village.

The temple gate looks toward the east and the Jyounomon-suji street. Those buildings such as the bell tower, the drum tower, the main hall, the reception hall and priest's quarters are set up and arranged.

The main gate has refined style and it became clear in a recent investigation that the gate was further relocated from Koushouji temple in Kyoto, which was originally said to be dismantled and reconstructed from one of the gates at Fushimi castle in Kyoto.

Koushouji Betsuin Temple was designated as an important cultural property of the country in 2014.
